Unfortunately, many of these teachers are not given the support they need—a failure that has resulted in unprecedented levels of teacher turnover, and a deeply negative impact on the students they teach. And the students who are most affected are often the ones who can least afford it.Modal Education was created to change this.

We build products—supplemental tools, apps, and more—to help teachers and school districts improve educational outcomes, especially for students with special learning needs. Our flagship product, Modal Math, was created specifically to help PreK-5th grade Deaf and Hard of Hearing students master math concepts.


Research

We conduct research on the educational landscape as a whole and special education and Deaf education in specific, in order to gather data and meaningful insights.

What our users have to say

The questions and answers are provided with the use of all the supports for DHH: sign language, voice, visuals, and the use of text! The students are also able to access Modal Math at home with their families! Which means, with the use of the visual Sign Language video the families can learn the signs and understand the math concepts needed for our students. We are so excited to use this resource for Math!

Modal Math has been an extremely useful resource for my math students, especially now that we are all teaching remotely. Having had experience teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing students ranging from 4th to 12th grade, I have searched for a supplemental resource to help my students practice the Common Core math skills, one with visual pictures as well as signs presented in their first language, ASL. This is currently the only resource I could find like it! Given direct skills instruction first, my students are able to utilize Modal Math independently with confidence and success.

"Mom, can I do Modal Math?"

I never thought I'd hear those words! My daughter, who has an Intellectual Disability, has a very difficult time grasping mathematical concepts. Her strategy has always been to just avoid doing math altogether. However, I introduced my daughter to Modal Math. Although she does not know sign language, the clear graphics and presence of a human signer seem to engage my daughter in a way that nothing else has. Using Modal Math, my daughter has attained skills that she has not previously been able to attain. Additionally, as previously noted, she is now ASKING to do math!

For many of our students, the lack of accessible language can impact their access to the math curriculum. Modal Math does an awesome job of allowing our DHH students access to the curriculum.  It allows our students the opportunity to practice and master math concepts through the use of both sign language and the written word. My students LOVE this program!  Kudos to the creator of this program for finally designing a math program to meet the needs of our DHH students!
